Kaylea has had so much going on lately that I've been too busy keeping up with her to post anything. I'll start with her and track. Track season is almost over, Kaylea has accomplished a lot this year. As a freshman, she was on the varsity team and ran the mile, the 1/2 mile, and two relay races, the 4X400 and the medley. She qualified to go to region in all of those races. Last week was region. She ran really well, but was only able to qualify for state in the medley relay. She gave it her all, and I think in the next couple of years she'll be hard to beat.
The track team had a 24 hour run, fundraiser last weekend. Basically they run around the track from noon on Friday till noon on Saturday. They each take shifts, and pass a baton so that the baton never stops going around the track. Kaylea's shift was 8pm to midnight and again 8am to noon. She didn't get a lot of sleep, and spent the rest of Saturday in bed. Sunday she woke up with a fever and has been sick off and on all week. (I'm wondering if she'll be able to run in the relay at state on Saturday...)A couple of weeks ago the High School was holding elections for class officers. The students were supposed to give a letter of intent to the teacher in charge of student government before they started campaigning. Kaylea wanted to be the Sophomore class President. She took her letter of intent to the teacher and was told that she was the only person running so far. If the teacher didn't get any more letters before 2pm that day, Kaylea would be the President. Sure enough she was uncontested, she was so excited because it meant she didn't have to write any speeches or make any buttons to hand out. She will be very busy next year though.
And last but definitely not least Kaylea got her learner's permit yesterday!!! She wouldn't let me take any pictures. She thinks I'm crazy with the camera, but we are all so proud of her. If I can last 6 months driving with her until she gets her license I will be a happy camper. I feel the grey hairs coming on quickly now. I only have one child left that doesn't drive...weird.
