Spirit Week

The kids dressed up in their class colors today for the last day of Spirit Week. The Freshmen are yellow, and the Juniors are blue. Quite funny.

Beautiful Bear River

Today Kaylea had a track meet at Bear River high school, in Tremonton. Talk about a beautiful day! It was 80 degrees outside, the sun was shining, it couldn't be more perfect! Steve's dad came up to watch her run, and my sister Tera decided to bring the kids from Logan to the race. What a fun surprise to have so many "Kaylea fans" out there cheering her on.

My nephew TJ was halarious, he absolutely loves Uncle Steve. He climbed all over him, and the entire time we were there, he kept showing things to Uncle Steve, and bringing Uncle Steve treasures, (a rock, a penny, a piece of asphalt) at one point, Kaylea came over and TJ said, "Kaylea, this is Uncle Steve!" Every time the gun would go off, TJ would turn around to look at the race, and it didn't matter if it was boys or girls running, he would shout, "GO KAYLEA!" He was a hoot!

Here are pictures of Kaylea's race. She does so well, she ran the mile in 6:06, and came in 4th place. Then she ran the 1/2 mile and came in 2nd place! (bad mom... I forgot her time) I think when the girls from other schools run against her, they are surprised that she's only a freshman. She is really determined, and works really hard at it.
It was such a nice day, after the races, we went with Steve's parents to Maddox in Brigham City for an amazing dinner.

Boycott Basketball

I have decided to boycott the sport of basketball. As most of you know, a couple of months ago Steve was playing and rolled his ankle, it was sprained and he had to wear a brace to walk on it. Well, my husband's favorite sport (next to running, which he can't physically do because of tendonitis) is basketball. He has the battle scars to prove it. He has broken or sprained both of his ankles numerous times, ALWAYS while playing basketball. In fact, when a doctor x-rays his ankles, they have to look at it together, and Steve tells them if it's a new injury, or an old one.

I keep telling him that he doesn't need to go to the church and play ball 2 times a week, he's just looking for trouble, hanging out with the WRONG crowd, but he won't listen to me. Well, last night was the same old thing. He left around 9:00pm for a wild game of church ball, but at 10:30 he came hobbling into the house, and I knew something had gone wrong...again. His ankle had bulges and bruises in places that, to me, looked totally weird. He was in a lot of pain most of the night, but wouldn't let me take him to the emergency room.

This morning I took him into our doctor, and to my surprise it was only a sprain again. This time it was a high sprain, which the doctor said would be more painful, and take a lot longer to heal. Thankfully, we still have the boot/brace that I bought for Steve Jr. a couple of months ago. That $2 boot has gotten a lot of use. This afternoon we went to Tremonton to watch Kaylea run a track meet. Of course, dad wouldn't miss it if at all possible. After being on it all day, it was really swollen. He is in a lot of pain tonight. I think tomorrow, he'll spend the day with it elevated and an ice pack. I have told him that I forbid him to ever play basketball again...he says he'll try it again next week.
So here's a picture before he went to the doctor, this is after icing it several times during the night. I think it looks weird, and look at the bumps on his foot. That's not normal.
This picture is after the doctor's visit. Steve wearing the infamous boot...a diehard fan of his daughter and track.
After a long day on his sore foot. It swelled up so much that you can't see where the ankle should be, and now is turning purple. I say BOO to basketball!!

Steve's Junior Prom 2009

Junior prom is always such a fun time. I can't believe Steve is a junior in high school. He does look pretty handsome in a tux! Steve was asked to Prominade with a really sweet girl named Sorina. They practiced a waltz for a couple of weeks before, and put on a really great show for us parents. They danced to "Time of Our Lives" by David Cook. They did such a good job, I had a video, but the house lights didn't come up until they were too far away from us to see.

I posted a video of them announcing Steve and his date. And forced him to stand still for a couple of pictures.

Pet Peeve for the day

I have been out running 3 days this week, and in 3 days I have been chased by 4 dogs. I absolutely love living in a rural community, where there's a lot of space, and a lot to see when I do go running, but this is getting ridiculous!

In the past it has been mostly yappy, lap dogs that think they can eat me alive. If I just stop and face them, and sometimes yell, "GO HOME!" they'll tuck their tails between their legs and leave me alone. But this week I have only had one small dog, the other three were a lot bigger, two heelers (trained to nip at your heels!!) and one chocolate lab.

The heelers followed me for about 3 houses, and decided they were bored with me, but today the chocolate lab adopted me! I had my radio blasting in my ears and didn't hear him come from behind me. He jumped up on me from behind, (scared me to death) and acted so happy and excited to see me. I stopped, and yelled, "GO HOME!" and he wagged his tail and jumped and licked my hands. I just tried to ignore him, and started running, and he ran along with me. That dog ran with me for 2 miles! He'd run in the road...in front of cars, and I'd get dirty looks from the drivers. We ran past an elementary school as Kindergarten was just letting out, he greeted the children joyfully, and then ran to catch up with me. We passed a field with 4 horses in it, and he had a blast chasing and being chased by them. I stopped probably 4 times and tried to push the dog back in the direction of his house, and yelled at him to go home...no luck. By the time I got home, I had come up with a plan. I would lock the dog in the barn and figure out who he belonged to. Easy enough. I was completely covered with wet dog smell, mud, horse manure....yuck!!

Treadmills are sometimes pretty boring, but I think I'd take that over wondering from which house my next running mate is going to come.
I just needed to vent!

Happy Easter 2009

We had such a nice easter season this year. It started last week with Steve's family. We had an Easter/Birthday party. We celebrated 5 birthdays, had an easter egg hunt, and had a nice dinner. It was so nice to get together with everybody, I think it's been months since we've seen Steve's family. Unfortunately, there were several other things going on at the same time so it was only Conner and I who went.

Kaylea had an invitational track meet in Delta, dad was there supporting her. She ran the mile and the 800M. She placed second in both events. Yay Kaylea!!

Stephen and Jessica both had to work, and ended up coming home late Saturday night.

Conner got to spend a few days with Uncle Adam and Aunt Caitlyn, and with Uncle John and Aunt Molly. He was spoiled rotten. He went flowboarding twice, and saw two movies, and especially had fun hanging out with his cousins.

This past week was spring break. You'd think with 3 teenagers we'd have some huge trip planned or something, but this year I decided spring break would be a great time to have Kaylea's wisdom teeth removed. Then she would have a few days to recover without missing any school. She decided having your wisdom teeth out is not that great, and ended up in bed for most of spring break.

On Saturday my family had an Easter party/dinner. We were invited to my sister Tera's in-law's house. It was really nice because all of my Utah brothers and sisters were there. Again, it was just me and Conner. Same reason as last week with work, but then dad stayed home with Kaylea because she wasn't feeling well...wisdom teeth. Tera's family was so sweet, and really made us feel welcome. It was nice to just spend time talking with everyone.

On Easter morning, the easter bunny came!! This is the first time in 7 years, believe me it was extremely simple, but everyone had a fun time finding their easter baskets (okay, paper sacks!). We enjoyed having dad at home all day, no meetings were planned for Easter...yay! We played games, and had a nice dinner together.

Happy Easter everyone!

Wisdom Teeth

Kaylea went in on Wednesday to get her wisdom teeth removed. I was worried that it would be pretty hard on her because they were pretty impacted. Kaylea is a trooper. She hasn't complained at all, and has been really positive.

Kaylea isn't able to smile, it hurts too much, and is starting to swell, but she has been up and around, on the computer, and watching tv for the past two days. Every time I come into the room she holds her face to try not to smile, she always has a smile on her face normally, and she tells me I need to leave the room because I make her smile. ?
