Mittenwald and Grandpa Klotz

Just a couple of days before we left for our vacation, we got a call from Steve's mom. She said we have an ancestor who was a famous violin maker, and in the town where he grew up, there is a statue of him. We all thought it would be fun to find this small town and this statue of Grandpa Klotz.

Mittenwald is a tiny town, high in the Alps. It's one of our favorite places that we visited. The mountains just towered over the town, and it was breathtaking.
The shops look like they have been there for hundreds of years. The area of town where the statue was located was again a walking area. I love how all these towns have pedestrian only areas. The tower behind us in this picture is the top of the church, and the statue sits right in front of it.
Here is the statue of Matthias Klotz, famous violin maker from Mittenwald, Germany, and Great..... Grandfather to Steve and my kids. Born in 1653 and lived to be 90 years old!

Right behind us is the church and the statue. The atmosphere of this tiny town was incredible. We sat just down the road from here at an outdoor cafe, and had pizza and spaghetti ice cream. Steve (our missionary) said his favorite dessert in Germany is spaghetti ice cream. We would have to agree, it's pretty good!

We were serenaded by this man on his accordion, it just made the day that much nicer.
