Here's the scoop. Last Wednesday night I was going to bed around 11:30, I turned off all the lights, and as I was walking past the stairs I saw that Kaylea's light was on. I decided to go investigate. As I walked down the stairs I stepped on something and started to slide down the stairs. (I found out later the phone was left on the stairs) As I was falling I threw my hands out and hit something. All 3 girls heard the THUMB, BUMP, BANG, BUDUM BUDUM, and came out of their rooms. My right pinkie felt totally numb, and as I held it out to look at it, they all gasped. It looked freaky. (as seen in the previous pictures)
Steve took me to the hospital. My finger was just dislocated, but the ER doctor said he was sure I had ripped my ligament in half. He told me I needed to go to an orthopedic surgeon for a second opinion, but if that was the case I would have to have surgery to repair the ligament, and go through physical therapy. If I didn't repair the ligament, my finger would be dislocated every time I bumped it wrong, or bent it. He sent me home in a plaster splint so it wouldn't move until I was seen by the second doctor.
I had to wait a day before I saw the doctor. During which time I had a stake training meeting. Basically, everybody I know around here was there, and I was asked about 40 times what happened. Many people said, "I bet you've told your story 20 times... so what happened?" It was kind of funny.
Well, Friday morning I went to see the doctor. He gave me another x-ray and said tape it up and it will heal itself. I went from a huge plaster splint to a small piece of tape around my finger. It has swollen to about 2 times its original size, but is a lot easier to do just about everything. I guess the ER doctor went a little overboard. The good news is it won't affect my trip too much. That was my main concern.
