Well, this week has really seemed to drag by... I have been waiting for my first letter from Kaylea in California, and I know we just talked to her on the phone on Tuesday, but I've been dying to hear what her new area, apartment, companion, mission president, etc. are like. Anyway, I did get a letter today, and although it was short, I was so happy to get it. In a nutshell, she loves her companion, she has a VERY nice apartment, and she's teaching, in her words, "Bajillionaires." She cracks me up.
I have been settling into my new job nicely. I've been working Pediatric Home Health for 6 months now. Two months ago I took on the job of on-call nurse, which basically means the phones are transferred to me after hours. I deal with everything at night and on weekends. I find nurses to cover shifts when nurses call in sick. I call to cancel shifts when the patient is in the hospital, or goes out of town. And I'm available to help out when a nurse is having clinical problems or questions. I've really enjoyed getting to know the other nurses, other patients, and the office staff.
Last week they said there was an opening at my job for an RN Case Manager position. I put in my resume, and was asked to come in for an interview Thursday. They said they have other interviews today, and won't have an answer for a few more days, but my interview went really well. I think I would really love this promotion, because I would be able to work more days, and set my own schedule. Fingers crossed!! We'll see.
So now for my scary story. I work nights, and so the days I'm home, I really struggle with my sleep. I came home and went to bed at 9:00pm slept until midnight, and then was having problems with the dog. She just wouldn't settle down. I got up, let her out for a while, and just worked on a doily I've been crocheting. So it was about 2:00am, and Maizey is laying by me in the family room while I'm crocheting and the front door opens. Steve Jr had been at a bonfire, so I thought he was coming in, but Maizey was going nuts! Wouldn't start barking at this guy. He was in the dark by the front door, and as he walked closer...it wasn't STEVE! This guy had a full moustache and beard, and just came in beside the couch where I was sitting, squatted down and tried to settle Maizey down. I had the hair on the back of my neck standing up, adrenaline running through me. "Um.... hi?" "Hey, how's it going?" "WHO ARE YOU??" He stood up, "Didn't Steve text you?" "no..."
Apparently, this guy worked with Steve over the summer. He is living in Logan, and came out to visit Steve. He had been at the bonfire with the group of them. Steve was taking a girlfriend home, so Steve told him to just walk in, go to the fridge, and get a treat for Maizey so she'll stop barking. He figured that we would be sleeping at 2:00am, so he didn't bother to tell us his friend was coming. Somebody is lucky he didn't get shot! Talk about AWKWARD!
