Boycott Basketball

I have decided to boycott the sport of basketball. As most of you know, a couple of months ago Steve was playing and rolled his ankle, it was sprained and he had to wear a brace to walk on it. Well, my husband's favorite sport (next to running, which he can't physically do because of tendonitis) is basketball. He has the battle scars to prove it. He has broken or sprained both of his ankles numerous times, ALWAYS while playing basketball. In fact, when a doctor x-rays his ankles, they have to look at it together, and Steve tells them if it's a new injury, or an old one.

I keep telling him that he doesn't need to go to the church and play ball 2 times a week, he's just looking for trouble, hanging out with the WRONG crowd, but he won't listen to me. Well, last night was the same old thing. He left around 9:00pm for a wild game of church ball, but at 10:30 he came hobbling into the house, and I knew something had gone wrong...again. His ankle had bulges and bruises in places that, to me, looked totally weird. He was in a lot of pain most of the night, but wouldn't let me take him to the emergency room.

This morning I took him into our doctor, and to my surprise it was only a sprain again. This time it was a high sprain, which the doctor said would be more painful, and take a lot longer to heal. Thankfully, we still have the boot/brace that I bought for Steve Jr. a couple of months ago. That $2 boot has gotten a lot of use. This afternoon we went to Tremonton to watch Kaylea run a track meet. Of course, dad wouldn't miss it if at all possible. After being on it all day, it was really swollen. He is in a lot of pain tonight. I think tomorrow, he'll spend the day with it elevated and an ice pack. I have told him that I forbid him to ever play basketball again...he says he'll try it again next week.
So here's a picture before he went to the doctor, this is after icing it several times during the night. I think it looks weird, and look at the bumps on his foot. That's not normal.
This picture is after the doctor's visit. Steve wearing the infamous boot...a diehard fan of his daughter and track.
After a long day on his sore foot. It swelled up so much that you can't see where the ankle should be, and now is turning purple. I say BOO to basketball!!
