In the past it has been mostly yappy, lap dogs that think they can eat me alive. If I just stop and face them, and sometimes yell, "GO HOME!" they'll tuck their tails between their legs and leave me alone. But this week I have only had one small dog, the other three were a lot bigger, two heelers (trained to nip at your heels!!) and one chocolate lab.
The heelers followed me for about 3 houses, and decided they were bored with me, but today the chocolate lab adopted me! I had my radio blasting in my ears and didn't hear him come from behind me. He jumped up on me from behind, (scared me to death) and acted so happy and excited to see me. I stopped, and yelled, "GO HOME!" and he wagged his tail and jumped and licked my hands. I just tried to ignore him, and started running, and he ran along with me. That dog ran with me for 2 miles! He'd run in the road...in front of cars, and I'd get dirty looks from the drivers. We ran past an elementary school as Kindergarten was just letting out, he greeted the children joyfully, and then ran to catch up with me. We passed a field with 4 horses in it, and he had a blast chasing and being chased by them. I stopped probably 4 times and tried to push the dog back in the direction of his house, and yelled at him to go home...no luck.
By the time I got home, I had come up with a plan. I would lock the dog in the barn and figure out who he belonged to. Easy enough. I was completely covered with wet dog smell, mud, horse manure....yuck!!Treadmills are sometimes pretty boring, but I think I'd take that over wondering from which house my next running mate is going to come.
I just needed to vent!
